What’s New

Intro
Greetings from Petersburg! Toni and I are enjoying a little R&R with the family now that the summer has wrapped up. It’s been rather rainy up here in Southeast Alaska but that’s a very welcome weather report because we’ve had a serious drought the last few years and as a result our reservoirs, ecosystem and spectacular rainforest have been feeling the stress.

Help Protect the Tongass!
If you haven’t heard already, we are strongly urging guests to comment to help protect the Tongass National Forest. At 17-million-acres, this largest remaining temperate old growth rainforest covers about 80% of Alaska’s southeast region and is our crown jewel. The Tongass is one of the planet’s largest carbon sinks. This pristine national resource, which is the largest national forest in the US, is owned by all Americans. Sadly, it is under threat due to a recent administrative proposal to reverse the 2001 Roadless Rule exemption for the Tongass National Forest. To learn more and submit a comment, see this link to the Southeast Alaska Conservation Council Toolkit. We know our guests value the Tongass because they tell us so when they are with us, so we urge all to comment!

Listen up!
Captain Dennis shares his expertise and knowledge of the local marine ecosystem on Frederick Soundings, a public service feature on KFSK sponsored by the Petersburg Marine Mammal Center. So if you want to get a feel for the nuggets and nuances that make our region so special, listen up!

Schedule Update
Spring Whale Trips 2020: Last chance to sign up as we only have one cabin left on each of the Sitka Spring Herring and Whale Trips. The $1,000 Discount still applies so call now! These cruises highlight the dramatic return of the humpback whales!
